Sean Grainger
-Principal
My name is Sean Grainger, and I am very excited to begin my journey as the new principal of West Park Elementary School. It is my honour and pleasure to welcome you to the new school year! I commit to working with you and your children to make this year an enriching and successful one. Our staff is dedicated to ensuring the well-being and happiness of every West Park student. We remain mindful of the four pillars which guide us at West Park Elementary:
- Connection - first, last and always.
- Commitment - support each other.
- Communication - with kindness and clarity.
- Collaboration - with a growth mindset.
We strive to connect with our West Park School families and the broader community we are part of. Please feel free to visit the school to chat about the wonderful things going on at our school. We’re committed to helping every student feel supported in their learning, and we place parents and family members at the center of that circle of support. Our dedicated staff members make their best effort to communicate effectively with our students and their families because we understand how important the home-school connection is to success in learning. Communication is the key element to effective collaboration. We are most effective when we’re working together.
This is my 32nd year as an educator. I have taught at every level from kindergarten through high school. My educator roles have been diverse. I was formally trained as an elementary school physical education and social studies specialist, after which I began my career teaching within First Nation’s communities for six years, then moved to Red Deer Public School Division to work with kids from at-risk environments in specialized programs. After a short spell as a middle school counselor, I entered the administrative pool as a vice-principal, and most recently served the division as its Mental Health and Wellness Coordinator.
I wear many hats. I volunteer as a member of the Canadian Ski Patrol, and coordinator of Grow Kids, Red Deer and the Thriving Kids Conference. I am also a certified professional wellness coach. I love the outdoors and do a lot of landscaping. My wife, Bina, has taught first grade for many years, currently at Annie L. Gaetz School. We have two beautiful children, Avery and Wyatt, who have both recently graduated from their undergraduate studies in Sociology and Law. More than anything else, we enjoy spending time together travelling, hiking, cycling, alpine skiing and all things outside.
Thank you for your dedicated support of West Park Elementary School, and I’m looking forward to a fantastic upcoming year!
